When?

The program runs from 9am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday 2023. We will also be meeting for dinner on the Friday night and while it will be great if everyone can be there on the Friday for this mean but this is not compulsory.

Where?

In Katoomba in the beautiful Blue Mountains, 2 hours west of Sydney.

The working space is a room with warmth and soul. It is a straw bale structure that has a great feel and wonderful at retaining the warmth

We were unable to source a fully accessible venue for this workshop. Please contact us if you have any mobility issues to determine if this centre can meet your needs.

Accommodation?

If you are not a local then we may be able to offer you an option for staying with a local playbacker or help you to find cheap accommodation.

We can also likely help you with transport from Sydney to Katoomba on the Friday and back again on the Sunday.

Who is this workshop for?

This is the fourth Australasian School of Playback Theatre. As one of the goals of the School is to share experience across the region we will be aiming to have a broad cross section of companies represented.

Like our previous programs, the course is designed for practitioners who are looking to deepen and develop their existing skills. It is not an introductory workshop nor is it designed to meet the needs of new Playbackers. When you express interest we will ask about your background in Playback, what experience you have with Playback performance and what draws you to the theme of this program.

The School seeks to create a safe and shared space for learning between participants and while there has been a huge range of experience in each program this has contributed to the richness of the learning. Please see responses from previous participants here.

Selection of participants for this program

The EOI process is open now. We are aiming to have a participant group of 16 - 18. This allows us to keep the costs of the program at a similar rate to the cost of the school in 2018.

Our aim will be to take participants from as many companies as possible and while this may limit the number that can come from any one company submit an EOI if your are interested. If we are oversubscribed then the facilitators will choose based on the information in the EOIs.

Expressions of interest

Expressions of interest will close on 24 March. If we are oversubscribed we will let you know the outcome of your EOI by 28 March. Deposits will be due on 12 April.

Cost

In an effort to ensure access for as many as possible there is a range of costs for this program:
Full board - all meals and accommodation. $970
Day participant - accommodation not included (limited number of places) $690
Full board with fee relief $745

Please note that the program will run after dinner in the evening till approximately 9.30pm. Those participating will be asked to provide a deposit of half of the rate that applies to them by 12 April. The balance of payment will be due 1 month prior to the program ie. 16 May.

Fee Relief application form

We are conscious that practitioners have very different abilities to cover this cost and that some have to add considerable travel costs. There is fee relief available for four participants and this will reduce the fee payable for those participants to $745. If you wish to attend the program and require fee relief please indicate that in your EOI and also complete the fee relief form.

If there are more requests for fee relief than the 4 places available a decision will be made by the program planning group.

Cancellations

Because of the tight timing of the program, once we have received your deposit/balance we can only refund your payment if we can fill your place.
